What Evolution Is

Evolution is the process by which living organisms adapt to their environment through change. This is necessary for survival, because the environment itself is always changing. If this happens so quickly that creatures can't keep up, they perish. Rapid environmental change usually has to do with temperature or water levels.

Genes are the cellular component within living organisms responsible for the characteristics of the organism. Genes themselves are continually changing. This process is called mutation and occurs randomly, but is sometimes triggered by environmental stimuli (e.g. increased solar activity).

When a creature's mutating genes result in a characteristic which favors adaptation to the environment, then the creature will live longer and reproduce more. The favorable genes are passed along to the offspring. If the opposite occurs, and the genes are not favorable to survival, then the creatures will die younger and reproduce fewer offspring, so the unfavorable genes are not passed on. This process is called natural selection, or survival of the fittest.

Science isn't science without proof. There are six proofs for evolution:

1. Universal Genetic Code

2. Continuity of Fossil Record

3. Interspecies Genetic Commonalities

4. Prenatal Growth Recaps Phylogeny

5. Postnatal Imprinting Recaps Phylogeny

6. Bacterial Resistance to Antibiotics

Note:

For detail on five of these proofs see Richard Peacock’s site “Evolution: Frequently Asked Questions”

What Evolution is Not

Ever since Charles Darwin first explained the evolutionary process, there has been an unnecessary unwarranted feud raging between the religious and scientific communities. There is no real bone of contention here, and never has been, for three reasons:

1. Evolution is not a theory to be debated, but a proven scientific fact.

2. The fact that most observable phenomena are not mentioned in ancient scriptures, does not render them nonexistent.

3. Evolution does not negate the process off intelligent design. It is simply the means by which intelligent design is implemented. Universal intelligence is simply the potential for manifest existence residing in unmanifest existence (e.g. the light bulb before Edison). Natural selection unlocks this potential in the same manner as does an inventor. Both universal intelligence and technology are infinite, so there is a great deal to look forward to. See more about this ahead.

For the Libertarian connection to evolution, here are two root definitions from "Evolutionary Psychology."

1. Evolutionary destiny is the imperative for the unimpeded, ever more varied and complex expression of universal intelligence through evolving organisms.

2. Liberty is the inalienable birthright of every living organism in the universe to manifest justly as a participant in evolutionary destiny. This manifestation, to be both Libertarian and just, must not unnecessarily interfere with the evolutionary expression of any other living organism.
