The story house belonged to David Drew, Esq. when I first came to Lyndon Vermont. He later became my attorney. The following is from my personal journal.

PM Just conclude a conversation with David Drew. Now, piecing together all my
information, a brief history:
Burklyn Hall
The mansion was built by Elmer Darling from 1904 to 1909. It has forty-two rooms and a barn hippodrome with
indoor riding ring and fourteen stables.
Nine years ago, it was sold for $135,000 to Marshall
Thurber who grew up locally, went west, got rich as an attorney, and returned. He also bought the
Darien Inn from Richard Yerkes. He set up a conference center, ski touring operation, and the well-known "Millionaire Maker
School".
Thurber claimed he could give a business college education
in five weeks. He borrowed $3,000,000 from friends and students, then lost 1,5000,000 of it in the stock market. After filing
Chapter 11, he returned the Darien Inn to Yerkes c 1979. Five years ago he sold
Burklyn Hall to David Drew for $210,000. Drew wants $800,000 or $1,000,000 with 85 acres. Yerkes wants $1,250,000 with 650
acres. I want the whole thing, but can't afford it.
