In early autumn
1944, aware that Germany is losing the war, Heinrich Himmler orders SS
Obergruppenführer Hans Adolf Prützmann to organize an elite troop of volunteers to operate secretly behind enemy lines. The
Wehrwolf units will be uniformed military formations trained in clandestine operations.
General
Inspector of Special Defense Prützmann is ordered to set up headquarters in Berlin. He learned guerrilla tactics used by Soviet
partisans while stationed in the occupied territories of Ukraine, and begins to teach this to the Wehrwolf units.
